Tras la sorpresiva salida de Néstor García, luego del triunfo en Mar del Plata, la Confederación oficializó al ex NBA como nuevo DT principal de cara a la Americup que comenzará este sábado y las clasificaciones FIBA.
La Confederación Argentina de Básquetbol anuncia la llegada de Pablo Prigioni como nuevo director técnico de la Selección mayor masculina. El entrenador tendrá como su primer compromiso la AmeriCup (2 al 11 de septiembre en Recife, Brasil), para continuar en noviembre y febrero con las últimas ventanas de clasificatorios FIBA a la Copa del Mundo 2023.
Desde Recife, el flamante entrenador manifestó: “Mi sentimiento por la Selección es muy grande, al igual que mi compromiso con este grupo. La camiseta de Argentina es lo más importante. Estamos enfocados, staff y jugadores, en dar lo mejor de cada uno de nosotros en el torneo que tenemos por delante”.
“Pablo es un ejemplo de superación y evolución permanente. Tuvo una ascendente carrera como jugador y durante mucho tiempo se mantuvo en las principales competencias mundiales. No tengo dudas de que su carrera como entrenador en la Selección será la continuidad de su constante desarrollo profesional”, expresó por su parte Fabián Borro, presidente de la CAB.
Cómo integrante de la “Generación Dorada” del básquetbol argentino, Prigioni formó parte del plantel que se quedó con la medalla de bronce en los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing 2008, entre otros logros. Con un destacado paso como jugador por Europa y la NBA, el entrenador cordobés de 45 años tendrá así su debut como Head Coach de un seleccionado nacional.
Tras su retiro como jugador, fue entrenador del Baskonia español y asistente en los Brooklyn Nets y Minnesota Timberwolves (cargo que mantendrá).
Prigioni estará acompañado en la AmeriCup por Gonzalo García, Leonardo Gutiérrez y Guido Fabbris como asistentes.
