La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) anunció que no adhiere a la obligatoriedad de la vacunación contra la Covid-19 en ningún país, aunque sí defiende la importancia que tiene la inmunización.
Debido al rebrote de contagios por la variante Delta y la ralentización de la inoculación, varios países optaron por este tipo de medida para algunos sectores de la población, principalmente al personal de salud o empleados estatales, como es el caso de Italia, Francia, Reino Unido y Estados Unidos.
Los expertos de la OMS han reiterado a lo largo de este año que las vacunas no bastan en la lucha contra el coronavirus y deben combinarse con las medidas sanitarias que ya el pasado año se generalizaron para frenar los contagios.
Entre ellas estarían desde el uso de mascarilla o tapabocas, lavado frecuente de manos, la ventilación de los hogares, la distancia física o el evitar lugares concurridos.
Por ahora se han administrado en el mundo unos 4.400 millones de dosis de la vacuna contra la COVID-19.
En países como España, Francia, Canadá, Reino Unido o Alemania el porcentaje de personas ya completamente vacunadas ronda el 60 % (baja al 50 % en Estados Unidos), mientras que en muchas naciones de bajos ingresos apenas alcanza el 1 %.
