El Instituto de Investigaciones Clínicas de Mar del Plata (IIC) comenzará dos nuevos estudios que buscarán prevenir los casos más graves de coronavirus. Uno de ellos incluye un comprimido que se toma en forma oral.
El investigador principal del ICC, Gonzalo Corral, explicó en diálogo con el programa El modular por Radio Vinilo que el estudio ya se realiza en otros países del mundo. Con una droga antiviral que busca reducir los graves efectos de la enfermedad en los contactos estrechos de un caso positivo.
“Es una droga que se va a utilizar también por vía oral y será para los casos de prevención del Covid-19 dentro de los núcleos familiares o convivientes de aquellos que atraviesan la enfermedad”, señaló el profesional.
El instituto será parte de un estudio a nivel mundial de un anticuerpo “fabricado” para prevenir el coronavirus.
“También vamos empezar con un estudio con un anticuerpo monoclonal, que es una proteína que se aplica en forma intramuscular, con el objetivo de prevenir infecciones. En lugar de aplicar una vacuna, utilizamos lo que se llaman anticuerpos ya fabricados”, explicó Corral.
El estudio es desarrollado por la empresa de biotecnología Adagio Therapeutics, Inc y se aplicará a los voluntarios en una sola dosis.
Según datos publicados por la Universidad de Oxford, esta proteína neutraliza todas las variantes de SARS-CoV-2 de preocupación, “con una potencia comparable o superior a la de otros anticuerpos en desarrollo”.
Además, el Instituto de Investigaciones Clínicas forma parte de los ensayos en fase 3 de las vacuna china Cansino y la alemana CureVac, del laboratorio Bayer, entre otros.
