Luego del debut con derrota ante Boca, el flamante entrenador del conjunto marplatense ganó su primer partido al mando del “Milrayitas” por 98 a 90 contra Ferro en el suplementario, luego de igualar en 81 en el tiempo regular del encuentro disputado en el Estadio “Héctor Etchart”, por una nueva jornada de la fase Única en la Liga Nacional de Bbasquetbol.

Con Franco Pennacchiotti y Tony Mitchell Jr como estandartes en el ataque, ambos con 7 puntos, Peñarol se fue al primer descanso 14 puntos arriba. Ferro tuvo un inicio de partido complicado, donde no sólo sufrió imprecisiones propias en ofensiva, que sólo le permitieron convertir 14 puntos en el primer cuarto, sino que además padeció la eficacia desde fuera del perímetro de los dirigidos por Leandro Ramella, quienes finalizaron el parcial con 5/8 desde la línea de tres.

La tendencia continuó en el segundo parcial, con un Ferro que le costó contener las penetraciones de Valinotti y Vaulet, los perimetrales del Milrayitas. Un parcial de 2-10, que estiró a 22 la diferencia a favor del equipo marplatense, obligó a Federico Fernández a pedir un nuevo minuto para intentar contrarrestar el avance de la visita. Y así fue, el “Verde” cambió la estrategia de juego, mejoró mucho y achicó distancias.

Con Sebastián Mignani fino desde la línea de libres (metió 6-6 en el cuarto) y André Coimbra haciéndose fuerte en los tableros (5 puntos y 3 RD), Ferro comenzó a encontrar los caminos para lastimar a Peñarol y, con un tremendo parcial de 17-0, se puso a cinco al finalizar el primer tiempo.

Peñarol no aflojó pese al favorable parcial de Ferro y, nuevamente con buenos pasajes de Pennacchiotti y Mitchell, logró estirar otra vez la diferencia a ocho. Pero al conjunto de Caballito nunca se lo puede dar por muerto y lo volvió a demostrar en el cierre del cuarto, cuando puso el partido 59-59, tras un parcial de 14-6.

El periodo final fue para el infarto. Nuevamente Peñarol se hizo fuerte en el comienzo de la mano de Valinotti, Vaulet y Mitchell y, con un parcial de 13-3, en el que Ferro estuvo más de cinco minutos sin convertir un tiro de campo, volvió a estirar la diferencia a favor a 10. Sin embargo, como en el cuarto anterior, el “Verde” se recuperó y, tras recortar la ventaja, Tomás Spano se hizo cargo de la última bola y sobre la chicharra marcó el empate en 81 y mandó la definición a suplementario.

Peñarol lo inició con un 5-0 gracias a un doble de Pennacchiotti y un triple lejano de Valinotti. Esa renta fue determinante. Ferro, más allá de una bomba de Metzger para arrimarlo, contó con un Valinotti líder en la victoria con 11 puntos en cinco minutos, más un triple desde su propio terreno sobre la chicharra.
