51 años del festival de Woodstock

Hace exactos 51 años comenzó uno de los eventos más insignes de la música popular, el festival de Woodstock. El evento, que mezcló la cultura hippie con rock, y consolidó la contracultura de los años sesenta.

Entre el 15 y el 18 de agosto de 1969 miles de jóvenes acudieron en el estado de Nueva York (Estados Unidos) al Festival de Música y Arte de Woodstock, fue un largo fin de semana que incluyó un total de 32 artistas; entre los más destacado de la música del momento, marcado por la filosofía hippie, el consumo de drogas y lemas como ‘paz y amor’ .

Woodstock contó con la participación de Joan Baez, Santana, Incredible String Band, Canned Heat, Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Sly &The Family Stone, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Ten Years After, The Band, Johnny Winter, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Crosby, Still, Nash & Young y, por supuesto, Jimi Hendrix, fueron algunos de los nombres más destacados de aquel mítico cartel.

Los afiches del festival aparecían por todos lados. El brazo de una guitarra, un pájaro posado sobre ella, los colores vivos, el anuncio de los “3 días de Paz y Música” ocupando gran parte del espacio, los artistas en letra muy pequeña, los días (15, 16 y 17 de agosto). Las entradas se vendían a 7 dólares por día, o 13 dólares por dos días, o 18 dólares por los tres. Se vendieron decenas de miles.
